Botox® / Xeomin®

What is BOTOX® / XEOMIN®

BOTOX® and XEOMIN® target one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet – the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® or XEOMIN® to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

What Should I Expect?

Dr. Simi will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you. Once that has been determined and she has completed the Botox treatments, you may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months. BOTOX® and XEOMIN® are technique-sensitive treatments. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is a licensed, trained, medical doctor.

Botox, one of the most popular cosmetic neuromodulators, acts as a muscle relaxant. This procedure involves injecting small doses of a neurotoxin solution.

Xeomin is a neuromodulator like Botox that is used to smooth the skin and get rid of frown lines. The two neuromodulators are virtually interchangeable.

Neuromodulators are appropriate for reducing the appearance of certain conditions such as aging or sagging skin, Crow’s feet (wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes), excessive sweating or oiliness, frown lines and forehead folds, among other wrinkles.

Dr. Simi does not recommend neuromodulators for facial lines that are not caused by muscle movement. Wrinkles caused by sun damage or sagging skin will not benefit from a neuromodulator like Botox.

When consulting a qualified and experienced neuromodulator professional, they will review your medical history. If you’re in good overall physical, mental, and emotional health, they’ll discuss your expectations, potential risks and outcomes of the procedure. Many times, doctors will ask if a patient has recently taken or is currently taking any blood thinning drugs, over-the-counter medications and supplements, previous neuromodulator therapy, injectable antibiotics, muscle relaxants, or allergy, cold medicine or sleep medicine.

While neuromodulators are not typically painful, a topical anesthetic or ice pack may help reduce any discomfort. Following the procedure, you may experience soreness, mild bruising, headaches, and/or drooping eyelids. It’s important not to rub or massage around the treated areas, as the solution could be moved to another area.
